5.3.18 / in the revolution with

jude, lucy & max

The songs of the Beatles provide the sonic framework for this musical tale of romance, war and peace. When young British worker Jude sets sail for the United States in search of his father, he ends up meeting carefree college student Max and his lovely sister, Lucy, along with a cast of eccentric characters. As Jude and Lucy fall for each other, their relationship is threatened by the social upheaval that accompanies the Vietnam War.

Although the movie isn’t known for it’s set design, it’s still set in the 60s in New York which gives us an outlook to the design and mannerisms at the time. In one of the film’s fantastical outbreaks, they put together a typical New York working scene with men in suits and hats and women in dresses and scarves. In this choreographed dance, you see the stereotyped New York lifestyle through fashion as well as some architecture in the later scenes. Earlier in the movie, there’s a scene in a bowling alley in the town that Max and Lucy are from. It’s decorated in typical 50s star emblems and bright colors. Towards the end of the scene, we see Jude and Max sitting on top of the bowling benches. Behind them there are round tables in the style of Knoll Tulip tables and Eames Molded Fiberglass chairs in yellow, orange, and red.
